Learning to fly

They are Flying (飛行少年) is a documentary directed by Huang Chia-chun (黃嘉俊) about a group of 30 boys from the Faith Hope Love Youth Academy (信望愛少年學園) in Hualian who ride around Taiwan on unicycles.
Like Island Etude it highlights some of Taiwan's beautiful scenery in the journey around the island. However, the real story here is [...]

Cycling along the Tonghou River

A while back I wrote about cycling to Wulai and noted that the road continued on past the police checkpoint and up into the mountains. I took advantage of the perfect weather today to ride further up the road along the Tonghou River (桶后溪).

This area is popular with cyclists, hikers and people that just [...]

Taiwan bike makers get boost

While high oil prices might be hurting many businesses, Taiwan's bike industry is profiting. Shares in Taiwanese company, Giant Manufacturing, the world's leading bicycle manufacturer, hit a record high yesterday. The Taipei Times reports:

The article by Rick Charette notes, "there were less than 100km of designated bike routes on [...]

I'd also like to feature this photo of Barking's wonderful sign. [...]

New cycling website

A new cycling website has just been launched. Cycle Taiwan is an English language portal for people in the bicycle industry and cyclists in Taiwan. It includes a discussion forum and you can add your own stories and photos. It looks like a great resource. Check it out at www.cycletaiwan.com.

4 May is Bike Day

Bike Day is an annual event in Taiwan held on the first weekend of May. It was held for the first time last year and is organised by the Cycling Lifestyle Foundation (自行車新文化基金會). Events were held in every city and county of Taiwan and I attended the Taipei City event. The ride began at Dajia [...]
