It seems public sentiments are not on the side of the Wild Strawberries here. My key point is the police could have handled the situation differently. The obstacle to traffic posed by the hut was no greater than a double-parked car, of which there are many in Taipei. It was a case of 小題大做 (small matter, big reaction).

STOP Ma, the students also planned to give President Ma Chapter 2 of the Constitution, the Parade & Assembly Law and a few other related things.

Please note: I refrain from making more specific accusations as the incident is subject to legal action.

In every democratic country this hut would have been removed. What do these "strawberries" think and expect??

.
.
David,

I watched this stupidity live on their broadcast site. The students were wrong to do obstruct the roadway / sidewalk with this huge hut and it was an ill-conceived idea to begin with. In the court of public opinion this is in no way going to help them. And I doubt they will get very far in court.

A better idea would have had the students give Ma a legitimate gift. One that would have made HIM look silly -- not the students. Something like a map of his interpretation of the R.O.C. -- which includes the mainland. Or something similar.

Instead, this stunt gives the KMT every opportunity to de-legitimize the students.

The students need to let the police / KMT make themselves look bad. Not the other way around.

STOP Ma, I think it would be better to focus on the police actions. Did the police handle this incident in an appropriate manner? The photos and news reports only tell a small part of the story.

.
Sorry -- as much as I love the WS -- this was a stupid move by the students. There are infinitely more ways that the students could get attention than by dumping a huge piece of garbage at the Presidential Palace.

I really hope their ideas get a whole lot better than this.
