Changes in Bitan

comparison of Bitan in Taipei County on 10 Oct 2007 and 14 Nov 2007

They have recently closed all the restaurants and shops along the riverside in Bitan and plan to remodel the area. The photo above shows how things have changed from 10 October to today. It will be interesting to see the result, although it is necessary to put up with six months of construction work in the interim.

The above photo shows some of the construction work in close up.

The weather has been beautiful for the last couple of days. I took advantage of the sunshine to capture the above panorama shot. It was taken from the Bitan suspension bridge looking north.

Stepping back in time to last month, this before and after photo shows how high the water level was during Typhoon Krosa. The photo on the left was taken on 6 October 2007 when the river level was at its peak. The photo on the right was taken a few days later.

David – Looks like you’ve got some exciting changes coming in your area. I’ve been impressed with the number of new construction projects in Taiwan in the last 10 years, from the HSR line to the parks and recreational areas. A lot of “progress” is being made and it’s becoming nicer to live here all the time. — Joe
