New photo gallery

Golden buildings and Taipei 101

When I moved the blog to the new domain on WordPress, I also set up a photo gallery. The gallery uses the open source software Gallery. The system is easy to install and use and I can recommend it. However, I also joined flickr at about the same time. Flickr is such a great website that I neglected the photo gallery.

Ximending panorama

Well, the gallery is now ready to be launched. Many of the photos there have already been uploaded to flickr or appeared on this blog. However, there are some new photos there especially in the Signs in Taiwan gallery. This gallery contains a variety of interesting signs and posters that I have seen around Taipei in Chinese, English and combinations of the two languages. My favorite one there is dog shit. Some of the other galleries include Buddhism in Taiwan, the Banqiao Railway Station and Food in Taiwan.

I will continue uploading my best photos to flickr, but over time I hope to build up a collection of photos that depict various aspects of life in Taiwan in the gallery. I wish I could report that I was also ready to launch www.taiwan-guide.org very soon, but unfortunately my lack of technical skills has left the project stalled for the moment.

Very nice gallery…

(Why use flickr? don’t you find the 200 browsable photos and upload limit annoying? What’s in Flickr that Gallery doesn’t have?)

fiLi, after a short time I loved using flickr so much that I paid for “pro” account, so I don’t have to worry about the upload limits. The thing flickr has that my personal gallery doesn’t is a huge community of users to share the photos with.

I would still like to develop the gallery further and I like it. I will add some more photos there for sure.
