Action for climate change in Taipei
There is an international day of action on climate change on 4 November 2006. The event is timed to coincide with the UN Climate Talks (MOP 2, COP 12) in Nairobi, Kenya from 6th to 17th November 2006.
In Taipei the “Climate Change, Taiwan Cares!” Parade and Festival will take place at Da’an Forest Park (Intersection of Xinyi Road and Jianguo South Road) from 10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday 4 November.
More details are available from blog.yam.com/climatechange (mostly in Chinese). If you are not in Taiwan details of events taking place around the world can be found at Global Climate Campaign 2006.
This is such an important issue and unfortunately Taiwan’s government has totally failed to introduce any significant policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To be fair Taiwan is probably no worse than Australia or the USA in that regard, but that is pretty bad!
If you remain unconvinced about the reality of climate change and the challenges the world faces as a result then I highly recommend seeing Al Gore’s documentary An Inconvenient Truth. It has been screening in Taipei and will probably soon be available on DVD.
