Some photos from Taiwan

Late this afternoon I met up with Julian and Henry to do an interview for the What’s up in Taiwan podcast. We did the interview on the 32nd floor of the Taipei County Government Building in Banqiao. There had been a few thunder showers during the afternoon and the air was clear with glorious views across Taipei City.

I posted some photos I took from up there last week. There are a couple more panorama shots I took today below. I recently signed up for flickr and have uploaded some of my photos there. Most of the photos have probably appeared on the blog at some time though.

A few people have complimented me on my photos. I don’t really have any skills as a photographer. I just take a lot of photos and some of them come out quite well. I mainly shoot landscapes and buildings. I find people have a bad habit of moving at exactly the wrong moment. However, while uploading my photos to flickr, I noticed that my photos from India tend to feature people a lot more. I think there is just something about the way Indian people are very easy to engage with and they love to be photographed.

I have two digital cameras. The main one I use is a Fujifilm Finepix s5500. It is a wonderful camera and I love using it. The other is a Nikon Coolpix 5200. It is a smaller camera that is more convenient to carry around, but the picture quality is not as good as the Fuji. Most of the photos on the blog are taken with the Fuji.

While I am on the subject of cameras and photography I would just like to mention a few Taiwan blogs with great photos.

The first is andres : photoblog. Andres has a wonderful eye and is able to catch beauty and detail in even the most mundane things.

Catherine Daigle has a great collection of shots from her travels around Taipei.

I have met Darren Melrose a few times at the monthly Saturday morning breakfast meetings. He has been in Taiwan for a few years and is working to build a career as a professional photographer. You can find his Taiwan photo gallery here.

Dennis Flood is no longer in Taiwan, but have a look at some of the Taiwan photos on his website. There are some great shots there.

I am sure there are more great Taiwan photoblogs out there. If you would like to recommend one please post a link in the comments.

UPDATE: Poagao has posted a link to his photos on flickr. He also has more photos on his website.

Another one I forgot to mention before is camereye. Leslie has returned to Canada but you can find some great Taiwan photos in her gallery.

Wow, neat. Does this mean you’ll be “up in Taiwan” soon?
