Cycling to Wulai

On Sunday morning I rode out to Wulai. I started out a bit late by my own standards, hitting the road at 6:30. Still on a Sunday morning there is not much traffic. It took me about an hour to reach the Xindian MRT Station, although that included a stop for breakfast. If I lived close to the red MRT line then I could just take my bike on the MRT and start the ride from Xindian. Unfortunately it is not possible to take bikes on the blue line of the MRT.

Past Xindian the city is quickly left behind. The road follows a river valley all the way up to Wulai town. The road goes up and down a bit and there are some nice views of the river and the mountains along the way.

Early in the morning the traffic was still fairly light. There were a few other cyclists on the road, although it seems that many of them take there bikes up to Wulai by car and then start riding from there.

When I got to Wulai town at 8:30 it seemed quite deserted. I stopped there for a drink before continuing my ride. I followed Route 9甲 up until the police checkpost.

Past the town you are surrounded by mountains and beautiful views. A few years ago I followed this road all the way to the end, but I wasn't prepared today. I was only carrying one water bottle and no toolkit. When the weather becomes a little cooler I will come back and continue the ride.

Been ages since I’ve been to Wulai. Looks like you had great weather for it.

Bikes aren’t allowed on the MRT blue line, but they are on the red line? Bizarre.
