New media in Taiwan
Xpat magazine is a new journal of art, literature, and adventure for the foreign community in Taiwan. The first issue is yet to hit the streets, but you can find out some more about the magazine from the website.
I don’t know anything about the mag other than what I’ve read on the website. They are calling for submissions, advertisers and donations. I guess it is somebody’s dream and they don’t have a lot of capital to get it started. They aren’t paying for articles they print yet. Still I wish them the best. Anybody that makes the effort to publish independent alternative media deserves some credit.
Another media outlet in a different format is also getting started in Taiwan. WWRN is an online radio station aimed squarely at the foreign community in Taiwan. It aims to fill the gap left by the failure of ICRT to serve the international community it was named after.
At present the station is only broadcasting via the internet, but has plans to take over the airwaves in Taiwan. It has a topic of its own at Forumosa.
